The study published in Immunology and Cell Biology demonstrates that splenic hematopoietic stem cells are in the G1 phase of the cell cycle, whereas bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells are in the G0 phase of the cell cycle. Splenic hematopoietic stem cells are pre-activated in the steady state and can readily differentiate into inflammatory cells during an acute emergency.
